COURT LOGO
The City of New London is planning to open the new Community Center in the summer of 2025. In addition to several programs and activities that reflect our unique community, the center will of course feature more traditional options for recreation. Among those options is a full basketball court that will accommodate volleyball, pickleball, and even an indoor batting cage. The New London Recreation Department, in partnership with the Office of Development & Planning and the New London Arts Council, is looking for a graphic artist to design a COURT LOGO to be placed at the center of the all new basketball court.

Exceptions can be made for artists with a history of showing work in New London, artists that are members of local non-profit organizations that regularly incorporate art into their programming and artists employed at a creative business in New London for at least one year. A creative business can be defined as any business that sells musical instruments, books, artwork or products that are handmade by artisans. Students attending colleges located in New London are welcome to apply.
Applicants are expected to submit examples of graphic design, or digital art, created by them, in the form of a portfolio. Examples of graphic design and digital art may include but are not limited to logos, advertisements, business branding, social media graphics, digital painting or vector art.

The finalist will be commissioned by the City of New London to create 3-5 variations of a design for the COURT LOGO. The selection committee will pick 2-3 of those designs for a public vote. The design with the most votes will be installed at center court in the New London Community Center in 2025. The selection committee is designated by the Office of Development & Planning and is comprised of New London Arts Council representatives.
Project Guidelines
The COURT LOGO will be applied with permanent vinyl graphics, 12 ft. in diameter, using The GameTime System from Robbins Sports Surfaces.
-
This complex method of application requires final designs be submitted in high quality PDF, or vector based file formats, using a CMYK color mode. While final designs can be full color, artists will be advised to use a color scheme that is vibrant, in order to be seen from far away. The overall tone of the designs should be positive.
-
Designs must include the words "New London" in a way that is easy to read. Consider bold fonts and use contrasting colors throughout designs where necessary.
-
Artist must incorporate the Official Seal of The City of New London (See below) into the design.

At the end of the Design Process, the selection committee chooses 2-3 final designs. Those designs are then voted on by the public.
